Martha Dawson Faculty Award

Martha Dawson Faculty Award

The purpose of the Martha Dawson Faculty Award is to recognize IU School of 91福利社faculty who have demonstrated outstanding work related to expanding educational access and fostering a supportive academic environment.

The award is limited to IUB School of 91福利社faculty.

The Annual Merit Review Process will provide the basis for identifying candidates for these Awards. In January, a call will be sent to all faculty to nominate individuals or self-nominate for one of these awards. From these nominations/self-nominations, members of the Annual Merit Review Committees (from each department and research centers) will then identify up to 10% of their faculty, based on the award criteria, to be forwarded to the appropriate selection committee by February 15. If a faculty member wants to self-nominate this award, the faculty member must submit their nomination packet by March 2nd. Pre-tenure and non-tenure track faculty are encouraged to self-nominate. No past recipient of these awards will be considered eligible for a second award in less than a five-year period.

$1500 will be awarded to be deposited in the awardee’s research or other account to be used for professional purposes.

The final selection will be made based on the following criteria:

  1. Demonstrate a commitment to expanding educational access, either in formal or informal learning or quasi-formal environments including both traditional and non-traditional learning situations and within any educational sector from young to adult lifelong learners; across all that, improved educational “access” is the key.
  2. Exhibit the ability to foster or design a supportive academic environment which is helpful to learners or learning, some of whom may not have had those educational possibilities previously; this might be demonstrated in a new educational model, framework, initiative, innovation, organization, project, center, etc.
  3. Show the impact that these activities have on advancing the School of Education’s research, teaching, and/or service missions.

The nominee should prepare a succinct electronic packet of materials for the Committee reviewers, including:

  1. Statement (no more than 3 single-spaced pages) including:
    • Statement of perspectives, experiences, and/or theoretical frameworks that drive the nominee’s efforts to expand access and foster supportive environments

    • Summary of achievements with work demonstrating access and support efforts highlighted.

  2. Full curriculum vita with relevant work highlighted.
  3. An optional support letter(s) outlining their commitments to expanding educational access and fostering a supportive academic environment as a faculty member.
