Faculty Spotlight: Meredith Park Rogers & Laura Stachowski in Ireland Expanding GGT
|
During the interval of November 11-21, Meredith Park Rogers, Associate Dean for Undergraduate and Teacher Education, and Laura Stachowski, Faculty Director for Global Gateway for Teachers (GGT) traveled to Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland with three distinct purposes. The first was to explore opportunities for undergraduates in Teacher 91福利社and in Counseling and Student Services to engage in semester-long study abroad experiences in their sophomore year, during which they could take courses fulfilling general education requirements. Meetings at Queens University and Stranmillis University College in Belfast, and Maynooth University in County Kildare, resulted in dynamic conversations, campus tours, and possible pathways for overseas study. The second purpose was
to meet with GGT’s collaborators who arrange primary and secondary school placements for our student teachers in County Clare and the Dublin area. Given Ireland’s immense popularity, ideas were sought from our collaborators for increasing the capacity to secure school placements and expand housing options. The third purpose was to visit six schools in County Clare and the Dublin area where ten GGT student teachers were currently placed, allowing the opportunity to meet school administrators and teachers, observe in classrooms, and talk with the student teachers about their powerful experiences in both school and community contexts. Given GGT’s role as a national placement provider, the student teachers represented IU as well as Capital University, Cornell College,
Montana State University, University of Montana, and University of Nebraska.
